About Pick 4
Pick 4 follows the same structure as Pick 3 but adds a fourth digit position for larger prizes. Choose four digits from 0–9 (repeats allowed), select a play type at the retailer, and enter midday or evening draws. Straight play offers a 1-in-10,000 chance of winning $5,000 on a $1 wager.
Tips for Playing Pick 4
- Pick 4 Straight odds (1 in 10,000) are exactly 10× harder than Pick 3 (1 in 1,000), but the Straight prize is also 10× larger ($5,000 vs $500 on a $1 bet). The risk-to-reward ratio is proportionally the same.
- A 24-way box covers all 24 orderings of four different digits, a good option if you want Box coverage across a wider range of outcomes. Doubles and triples reduce the number of orderings (and cost less for Box play).
- Combo play on Pick 4 can get expensive since it purchases every Straight combination of your chosen digits. For four all-different digits, that is 24 Straight bets.
Pick 4: Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Pick 4 Straight odds?
The odds of an exact Straight match are 1 in 10,000. There are 10,000 possible four-digit combinations from 0000 to 9999, and each Straight play covers exactly one of them.
Is Pick 4 harder to win than Pick 3?
Yes, the Straight odds are exactly 10× harder (1 in 10,000 vs 1 in 1,000). However, the Straight prize is also 10× larger. Box play scales similarly: a 24-way box in Pick 4 pays proportionally less than a 6-way box in Pick 3 because it covers more combinations.
What are all the Pick 4 Box play types?
Pick 4 Box play varies by how many of your digits repeat. A 24-way box uses four all-different digits (24 possible orderings). A 12-way box has one pair of identical digits and two others (12 orderings). A 6-way box has two pairs (6 orderings). A 4-way box has one triple and one other digit (4 orderings). More orderings = better odds of winning at Box but a smaller per-win prize.
What is Combo play in Pick 4?
Combo play purchases every possible Straight combination of your chosen digits. For four all-different digits, that is 24 Straight bets at $1 each, for a $24 total cost. For a double (one repeated digit), it's 12 bets ($12). Combo guarantees a full Straight payout regardless of draw order, but the cost is significant for Pick 4 compared to Pick 3.
What is the maximum Pick 4 prize?
The maximum Pick 4 prize on a $1 Straight play is $5,000 for an exact match. A $0.50 Straight play pays $2,500. Box prizes are lower: a $1 24-way Box typically pays around $100, and a $1 4-way Box pays around $600. Exact prize amounts should be confirmed with your retailer as they may vary.
Do Pick 4 Straight/Box and Front/Back Pair play the same way as Pick 3?
Yes, with the same mechanics applied to four positions instead of three. Straight/Box splits the wager between Straight and Box. Front Pair covers the first two digits in exact order; Back Pair covers the last two. Both Pair options give you 1-in-100 odds and the same payout structure as in Pick 3, applied to positions 1-2 or 3-4 of the four-digit result.
When does Pick 4 draw?
Pick 4 draws twice daily at approximately 12:40 PM ET (midday) and 6:59 PM ET (evening), seven days a week. The draw schedule mirrors Pick 2, Pick 3, and Pick 5. Always confirm the current cut-off time with your retailer before purchasing.
