About Pick 5
Pick 5 is the largest digit game in the PA Lottery lineup. Choose five digits from 0–9 (repeats allowed) for a Straight prize of $50,000 on a $1 wager. The same flexible play types available in Pick 3 and Pick 4: Straight, Box, Combo, Front/Back Pair, apply here as well.
Tips for Playing Pick 5
- Pick 5 offers the highest fixed prize of all PA Pick games, $50,000 for a $1 Straight play. The odds (1 in 100,000) are also the longest in the Pick family.
- Box play on five different digits covers up to 120 orderings (a 120-way box). This maximizes your coverage but comes at a higher cost and a proportionally smaller per-win prize.
- Entries like 5-5-5-5-5 or 0-0-0-0-0 are valid because each digit position is drawn independently. All-repeat combinations are just as likely to win as any other five-digit sequence.
Pick 5: Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Pick 5 Straight odds?
The odds of an exact Straight match are 1 in 100,000. There are 100,000 possible five-digit combinations from 00000 to 99999, and each Straight play covers exactly one of them.
How is Pick 5 different from Cash 5?
Pick 5 is a digit game; you choose five positions each with digits from 0–9, and repeats are allowed. Cash 5 is a ball-draw game; you pick five unique numbers from a pool of 1–43. The game formats, odds, prize structures, and play types are completely different. Cash 5 is a jackpot-style game; Pick 5 is a fixed-prize digit game.
What play types are available in Pick 5?
Pick 5 offers the same play types as Pick 3 and Pick 4: Straight (exact order match), Box (any order match), Straight/Box (split wager on both), and Combo (all Straight combinations of your digits purchased together). Front Pair and Back Pair are available in Pick 3 and Pick 4 but not Pick 5. All play types accept wagers as low as $0.50.
What is a 120-way Box in Pick 5?
A 120-way Box applies when all five of your chosen digits are different. There are 120 possible orderings of five distinct digits (5 factorial = 120), so a 120-way Box wins on any draw that contains your five digits in any arrangement. It's the widest coverage available in Pick 5, but because it covers so many orderings, the per-win prize is proportionally smaller than a tighter Box type with repeated digits.
What is the maximum Pick 5 prize?
A $1 Straight play in Pick 5 pays $50,000 on an exact five-digit match. This is the highest fixed prize in the Pick game family. A $0.50 Straight play pays $25,000. Box prizes are significantly lower depending on the number of orderings covered. Always confirm current prize amounts with your retailer.
What is the minimum wager for Pick 5?
Like all PA Pick games, Pick 5 accepts minimum wagers of $0.50 per play. At $0.50 Straight, a win pays $25,000. The $0.50 minimum allows players to participate in Pick 5's higher-prize structure at a lower entry cost than the full $1 ticket price.
How often does Pick 5 draw?
Pick 5 draws twice daily: midday at approximately 12:40 PM ET and evening at approximately 6:59 PM ET, seven days a week. The schedule matches Pick 2, Pick 3, and Pick 4. You can purchase tickets covering multiple draws in one transaction; confirm multi-draw options with your retailer.
